“The Red String” by Kiera Fisher

Mixed media with recycled magazine scraps.

I believe self-love is one of the strongest medicines that can heal the soul. No matter what
people around you say, we as people are free to do what we want with our lives.

Made with recycled magazine scraps, “The Red String” represents the red string theory- a belief originated in East Asian cultures where an invisible red thread is tied around the fingers of people who are destined to be together, no matter the place, time, or circumstances in their lives. The figure in this piece has both of her pinkies tied together with this red string. Defying her fate, and what society says about love- she is destined to love herself, to empower herself and go through life with her best interest in mind.
