“Sophie” by Emily McKinnon

I was not yet four months when we first met,
But it did not take long for you and I to become a we.
I am your loyal friend, a wonderful pet
We would set out on many adventures together, what glee.

You would lovingly brush my silky white fur
I was playful and fun as any cat should be,
I was always happy watching you smile as you listened to me purr.
You hoped that we could stay like this forever, that was your plea.

But despite all the fun, time does not cease,
We both grew older and yet you are still young,
And there will come a time where you will need to make peace
Spring for me has long since sprung.

My face has now gone gray,
I am no longer as spry as I was in my youth,
And I would now rather loaf and lay
But I will say I am still the same kitten that is the truth.

Though our time left together may only amount to months not years,
I know you will still love me and for that I have no fears.
