“The Night We Spoke” by K. Logan

The sandman forgot me that night
When you leaned in close
Secret words filling the cool air
as their shadows whispered, “I love you.”

The confession had rested on the tip of your tongue
Much like mine
and the dark held its breath
Just as I

We exhaled together, a comforted sigh
Our love was reciprocated
There was no need to hide

Our childish giggles spilled over the edges of the bed
hearts beating in time like wild drums
Your chest thumping into mine

For a moment, the early morning held us
with a silence that hums when all is quiet
And what is new has sprung

In the stillness, I offered you solace
A repetition of the same three words
and the world felt softer

We sank back into slumber,
limbs twisted like vines &
our joy a soft tremor
sprouting quietly beneath the thawing sky
