“Zoo Trip” by Rich Glinnen

The stroller loses a wheel
and scrapes to a halt,
lisping its advertised versatility,
not as a full-sized travel system
that can convert from
an infant car seat carrier
to a toddler stroller,
but as a timebomb
that can explode softly
and cast a scratchy cough
through the bars
of the lion exhibit,
which does nothing
in terms of resuscitating
the gutted costumes
smeared like peanut butter
across the crabgrass.
