In most of my art pieces my chosen medium is charcoal. I use charcoal and symbolism in “Half Way There” to convey the experience of how being in college feels— especially as a second year college student myself. The charcoal creates the feelings of darkness and uncertainty before the light at the end of the path. Enlarged school supplies symbolize the heavy weight coursework can place on a student. The broken, cracked ruler path reflects set backs, how far you have come, and how far you still have to go.
In “Halfway There”, Alyssanna explores the theme of uncertainty, growth, and the college experience.
