“Don’t You Love It When It Rains” by Amber Haliday

Don’t you love it when it rains

Watching the subtle buildup of water until a droplet forms

The sound of rain gently hitting the puddles below

The pitter-patter of rain on a window

The unrhythmic, yet peaceful sounds of rain prancing on the ground interchangeably.

Don’t you love it when it rains?

When life goes still to take shelter.

When you get to rest, as the clouds cry for you

Don’t you love it when it rains?

When you can look around at the distorted outlines of what was familiar

When you can feel the water press against your skin like sweat

When you can breathe in the cool, wet air

Don’t you love it when it rains?

When the light bounces off the puddles, creating its own mirror below

When you can watch the light illuminate millions of droplets

How can something so chaotic, so untimely, so messy, be so peaceful?

To feel the water grip your clothes and eventually your skin

Is so uncomfortable to feel, but so comforting to know Don’t you just love it when it rains

When it’s your turn to watch the sky cry as the world watches silently
